Oh how we enjoyed worms in 2D (especially when it came out, we were in our late teens going around games shops asking sales people "do you have worms?" then telling them to go to a doctor when they said yes - ah the fun of youth) the funny voices, the great guns, the immense training it took to get that grenade thrown at just the right power so-as to land right next to that last enemy worm.
Thankfully Worms 4 has kept the great formula (and the dress-up system that came in with World Party) and converted it into 3D, with perfection this time around. The great, start turn - move - kill - giggle-like-a-12-year-old - end turn, system that captivated us for so long has finally returned to greatness.
The cell-shaded annelids have their traditional arsenal of fire-punches, bazookas, shotguns and holy-hand-grenades (hallelujah) plus some new weapons like the sniper rifle and the sentry gun and the super-secret Concrete Donkey. All over the top, all exploding with perfection and all so much fun to use.
Other than traditional team on team blow-each-other-up game modes (in single and multiplayer) Worms 4 has single player missions following a very worms-like story and extra missions like target shooting and super-sheep steering.
Mayhem has the worm dress-up system that we saw in World Party now in 3D so your team can be dressed up like you want (here at Metaboli we like dressing the worms up as Sam Fisher - with the night vision goggles). You can also design your own weapons both in power and in type and even the style of gun you'll use...
So get on your little pink tails and crawl up to destroy your annelid enemies - it's Worms and now it's true Mayhem.
