What Metaboli thinks

PC game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent
It's the fourth in the spectacular Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series, and Double Agent is equally as good as the rest. And if you haven't played the rest here's a catch up Metaboli style: Splinter Cell is here, Pandora Tomorrow is here and Chaos Theory is here. Go play them, we'll wait... you're back, OK, now you're ready to take on Sam's latest.

Now after all that, this Splinter Cell takes on a bit of a different angle compared to the last; first of all, as you're undercover, you're working for two camps; the terrorists and the NSA. You've got to keep both of them happy through the games "trust" system so as not to be ratted out, whether it's by completing secondary objectives or just not getting caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. The trust system and the decisions you make in the game even have an impact on the gameplay, taking you through to one of the four possible endings.

There's been some massive changes to the heads-up display too - it's gone! Like lots of new games there's no more health system, instead Sam recovers automatically if he takes cover a bit. And the whole in the visibility rating is shown by the light codes on the unit on Fisher's back.
Infact you'll find out that is the major change in this Splinter Cell: light. There's a lot less shadow around for you to hide in, so you'll be sneaking around bright levels hiding from the enemies as you go. And there's so little darkness that you'll hardly ever need the signature goggles. Some purists may be gutted by this, but the design of the levels makes everything just as hard now that you and your enemies are on the same level.

Multiplayer is where Double Agent makes the most changes to the series. This time you can be up to 6 on the level, and you can have the mercenaries be computer controlled. There's a massive speed increase as well as the spy's loose their guns but become even more athletic.
All in all a well rounded addition to the series that's just as deep online as offline.

N.B. You'll need to enter the multiplayer key TWICE: once to activate the game when playing for the first time, and once when creating your multiplayer online account with Ubi.com.
You can receive your multiplayer key via mail by requesting it on the link on this page (under the Play button when logged in).
You will also need to have the Ageia PhysX drivers installed (though a physx card is not required), as well as .net framework v2.0 or above for Double Agent to run
